they need more tuba in their lives

Finally, a week plus after having the link printed in the N&O, the NCMA gets their summer concert schedule up online. I'm not too thrilled that they've gone to a tiered pricing structure but I guess it was inevitable that they'd figure out they could charge more money to the chardonnay-sipping, NPR-listening segment of their audience. And my lack-of-happiness on that front is somewhat offset by their at least bringing in some world music this year, after last year's almost total shutout. Only two shows but they should both be good ones: Salif Keita (8/4) and Ozomatli (7/12). I'm esp. excited about Ozomatli. They kick way more ass than the usual NCMA summer concert show.

OZO!!!

OMG, they're calling it "Latin Dance Party: An Evening With Ozomatli"--makes it sound rather sedate! Well $20 is fine with me for Ozomatli ... d'ya think the chardonnay sippers have ever even heard of them?

Oh, and is your title from Slate's review of the Springsteen-does-Seeger album ... because I swear that review used that exact sentence. Coincidence?

1. if i'm reading the seating charts right then the $20 seats are the ones at the top of the bleachers. but who wants to sit for an ozomatli concert anyway? i'm thinking either the cheaper down front & center seats, the off to the side seats or just out on the lawn w/ foods and drinks
2. coincidence? no, conspiracy!

this just in -- los Amigos Invisibles are at the Cradle the next night (7/13). hey, sleep is for the weak...

OK, so maybe cheap seats are better! So what's the easiest way to get tix together ... one person collect the money and then make the buy? 'Cause I think we have a grouplet forming ...

Los Lobos has played at NCMA several times and I hear they've drawn a pretty decent crowd--I imagine a lot of Los Lobos fans have discovered Ozomatli, or if they haven't, they should.
