fall into frame

Wow. New York Changing is an amazing site (I found it via scrubbles). Douglas Levere rephotographs sites in New York City photographed by Berenice Abbot, mostly in the 1930s. The side by side comparisons are breathtaking. Fascinating stuff. Well, I think so. Maybe less so to non-natives (you tell me). I'm struck both by how much some of the sites have changed and how little has changed at some of the other locations.

I've always gotten a huge kick out of recognizing places I've been in movies or on TV. Living in NYC a couple years vastly increased opportunities for this pleasure.

I'm not a native and I thought it was fascinating. The most interesting photos to me were the ones that were almost the same, except for darker buildings (dirt? aging brick? both?) and the addition of lampposts and trees. I never would have guessed that Manhatten would have more trees today than in the 30s.
