is it Granada I see or only Asbury Park?

Doing some quick math, it turns out I've seen 40% of these movies. That's less than I'd expected. On the other hand, about half of those unseen I have no interest in whatsoever and most of the rest are already in my Netflix queue. It's odd, though, to think of some of these as "overlooked" as they're among my all-time faves (esp. 15, 33, 40, 46, 49, 58, 62, 88, 89, 90)

And in today's Icelandic popstar update, I read that Bjork's going to be performing during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in Athens tomorrow. Mostly I'm not much of a sports fan, but I like the Olympics cos it's a chance to see things that hardly ever show up on TV (fencing, field hockey, yachting, etc). Sadly, 2 of the affiliated networks carrying coverage from Athens (Telemundo and Bravo) are not in the Durham cable package. I just know that's where all the "variety sports" are going to end up. And probably most of the futbol too.

i too have seen 40% of them, although i don't see how 'glengarry glen ross' could be considered "overlooked". everyone knows that one.

i absolutely love 'sneakers' and 'the zero effect', but i always figured those were the sort of movies that no one else would love. funny to see them there.

weeeird ... I've also seen 40% of those movies. Well, 42% to be exact. Movies I adored (besides Georg and Lisa's lists, which are all great): Fearless, the Winslow Boy, Dead Again, Pump Up the Volume, Strange Days, Living in Oblivion.

I agree that it seems far-fetched to call the three Mamet films "overlooked." They don't make as much money as Tom Cruise explodo-fests, but Mamet isn't exactly ignored.

Sneakers is, for me, one of those movies that i like without any direct connection to whether it's objectively a "good movie." in many ways, it's not. but (as is often the case) that doesn't really dim my fondness for it, which is also somewhat related to the fact that i saw it for the first time at a drive-in.

for that matter, 'pump up the volume' is sort of an anthemic movie for "us", right? i don't really consider it to be overlooked. it would, of course, have to go pretty high on my list.

i went through that list and padded out my netflix queue... looks like i won't be giving up netflix anytime soon, after all :)

joe versus the volcano! joe versus the volcano!!!

i've been thinking about which of those movies i'd pick, if i had to pick just one. i think i could pretty easily get it down to a top 10: Living in Oblivion, Topsy Turvy, Double Life of Veronique, Ghost Dog, Priscilla, LA Story, the Limey, Big Night, Sonatine, Little Princess. but just one? probably depends on what kinda mood i'm in.
if i was making that list i'd probably have left off some of the "bigger" movies y'all have mentioned. and i'd definitely want to add Limbo, the John Sayles movie from '99.
